About Me

I am a native North Carolinian, and I moved to Wilmington in 2006. I am married with two young daughters, and we live in the lovely town of Carolina Beach.

I enjoy healthy, delicious food, art made for art's sake, watching mixed-martial arts, vigorous exercise, disc golf, classic professional wrestling, stand-up comedy, the beach, learning, the Carolina Panthers, and most of all being with friends and family.

I do not enjoy laziness, litter, inconsiderate drivers, rudeness, closed minds, or the current state of political discussion in this country.

As an educator, it is important for me to model integrity and perseverance. I want to be a leader in my classroom, school, and community. I understand that everyone is not an academic or necessarily a fan of English class, but I hope to provide valuable content whether it be subject-verb agreement, how to be a better learner, or what to do when you don't know what to do.

I try hard to be understanding of students' different interests, goals, dispositions, backgrounds, motivations, etc. I take Freedom of Speech very seriously, and I strive to make my room an area where people can share the pieces of themselves that they value as well as what they may not be so proud of. I try to be open and vulnerable with my students, so they can understand my interests, goals, dispostion, background, motivations, etc.

I am in education because I want to make a positive difference in my community. I care about people. We can find all sorts of things to disagree about: music, politics, religion, etc. But if we love each other, we can figure it out. We will be okay.
